Chaw Kalyar

Architect Chaw Kalyar  (Claire) found STATEMENT Architecture+Design firm in 2008, having worked under the tutelage of U SUN OO of Design 2000 co.ltd. in various positions since 1999 when she was an Architectural student.

Claire received her formal architectural education locally and overseas, graduated with Bachelor in Architecture from Yangon Institute of Technology (2001) she later acquired her MSc in Environmental Design of Buildings from Cardiff University, UK (2005) as a Chevening scholar.

Recently, in 2013 she received an Australia Awards of Fellowship for Built Heritage-Management and Conservation from The University of Queensland, Australia.

Her passion for architectural travelling also brought her to many exciting places around the world where she drew her inspiration from. She was also involved in the M.Arch studio project as a visiting scholar at the University of  Hong Kong  working on  intervention of old buildings in an environmentally friendly manner from Sep to Dec 2014.

Apart from running her design firm, Claire also passionately contributes to voluntary works. She has been involved in Yangon Heritage Trust since its inception in 2012 aiming to help protect the city’s threatened physical heritage. She is also a member of “The National Selection Committee, Myanmar” for participation of “ ASEAN Energy efficient building competition” and taking a role in evaluating passive design performance of the proposed buildings.
